A fireside read?

As the nights draw in, a good book is vital.  The Guardian Weekend's Review has come up with another that's right on time: Entangled Life: How Fungi Make Our Worlds, Change Our Minds and Shape our Futures, by Merlin (bird or wizard, I wonder?) Sheldrake.
'Prince, Tom Waits and a prisoner ant pop up in a fascinating book about how fungi form our world.' writes reviewer Tom Kerridge.

It so happens that Abby's wonderful bird photos are shortly to be replaced with fungi - just to remind us that this is the time to look down rather than up for nature's wonders, like this bracket fungus on a tree on the Ackling Dyke near the Vitrell Gate.  If you have a photo of fungi you'd like to share, do send them to tisnathist@gmail.com and go to our Reading List page for other ideas for the fireside.

Please do not eat any of them.

If it's not me, Elizabeth Forbes, website editor (keen but ignorant), I'll say so.

Every photograph is captioned where necessary: in the 'galleries' please click once both to open and to view this, and including the photographer unless it's one of mine. You can scroll through all the photos in a 'gallery', too. Those including 'BC' are with kind permission of Butterfly-conservation.org.
