Thanks to a grant by the Wiltshire and Swindon Biological Records Centre, the society has recently acquired a trail camera with the purpose of helping our members find out more about our local wildlife. The condition for this grant is that biological records will be regularly produced, checked and sent to our regional BRC.
We would like to encourage our members to find out about the wildlife that visits their gardens and help them to develop more nature-friendly practices (i.e. gardening).
Examples of trail camera pictures obtained locally, with our new camera and others, can be found below.
Terms and conditions of the wildlife trail camera
The trail camera is the property of the Tisbury and District Natural History Society, acquired with the purpose of helping its members to gain a better understanding of the wildlife present in their area and increasing the biological records for our region.
The use of the trail camera will be requested by any of our members and a member of our committee will deploy the camera at a location to be agreed between them, within the property (garden, farm, etc) of the requesting member, for free.
This opportunity will be advertised regularly to our members during meetings, via mailing lists and the website and social media.
Any non-members wishing to make use of the camera will need to join the society by paying the annual membership fee.
A designated trail camera coordinator, part of the society’s committee, has been nominated to keep a booking calendar and ensure equal and fair access to the use of the camera by all members.
Any members wishing to borrow the trail camera will be in touch with the coordinator first, and agree on a borrowing term.
Camera borrowing calendar coordinator: Jane Smart (get in touch via our contact form). Camera deployer: Inés López-Dóriga.
