Thanks to a grant by the Wiltshire and Swindon Biological Records Centre, the society has recently acquired a trail camera with the purpose of lending it (free of charge) to our members. The condition for this grant is that biological records will be regularly produced, checked and sent to our regional BRC.
The objective is to encourage our members to find out about the wildlife that visits their gardens and help them to develop more nature-friendly practices (i.e. gardening).
Examples of trail camera pictures obtained locally, with our new camera and others, can be found below. Scroll down to read our terms and conditions and download the user agreement form and biological recording form.
Terms and conditions of the wildlife trail camera
The trail camera is the property of the Tisbury and District Natural History Society, acquired with the purpose of helping its members to gain a better understanding of the wildlife present in their area and increasing the biological records for our region.
The trail camera will be borrowed by members for free upon payment of a deposit and signature of a user agreement form.
Members will have the opportunity to borrow the camera for a maximum of two weeks at a time. This opportunity will be advertised regularly to our members during meetings, via mailing lists and the website and social media.
Any non-members wishing to use the camera will need to join the society by paying the annual membership fee.
A designated trail camera coordinator, part of the society’s committee, will be nominated. The coordinator will keep a booking calendar, manage the borrowing scheme amongst the members and ensure equal and fair access to the use of the camera by all members.
Any members wishing to borrow the trail camera will be in touch with the coordinator, and agree on a borrowing term. The trail camera will be collected and returned by the users on the agreed dates with the coordinator, at the address provided by the coordinator.
Users of the camera will pay the deposit and sign an agreement form on collection of the camera. In this form, users will abide to follow the user instructions and take sole responsibility for the trail camera whilst in their care. The trail camera will not be lent to third persons other than the signatories of the user agreement, regardless of their membership status.
The coordinator will return the deposit to users on return of the camera, provided this is done within the agreed conditions. A penalty will apply to any users who fail to abide by the terms of the agreement form.
The details for 2024 are as follows:
